Convening in Cancer’s Shadowy Curve

4th House of the Zodiac, CANCER – June 21 – July 22

(Warning: I am going to admit with given circumstances in my own lived experiences with Cancerean individuals, this post has been very challenging to reflect positively on. Within close proximity, I have bared the brute force of the shadowy combative aspect of this sign my entire life. With this in mind, I will do my best to provide as much as of an unbiased synopsis of the zodiac sign of Cancer.)

The eclipses and retrogrades in July are at the height of this Cancer season, and it’s going to either leave you wanting to bunker down or expand in ways you never imagined possible! Which is odd to say to say the least… due to the natural encasement of the Cancerean crab shell to be the equivalent of a bomb shelter — shielding against all harms that come during this time. Cancers are the quintessential zodiac sign who foster the warm fuzzies in wanting to provide the feeling for others to settle down with a home cooked meal. But do not underestimate this feeling. It is a powerful and emotional Cancerean force to be reckoned with and if unprepared during the month of July, it will you leave you chewed and spit-out wondering what just happened to your soul…

Cancer is in the cardinal square of Libra, Capricorn, and Aries, unfolding at the beginning of the longest day of the year — the Summer Solstice, taking place on June 21st. Cancer being synonymous with the crab, is the only sign of the zodiac that is ruled by the Moon, making those who have strong natal chart placements in Cancer to have undulating mood swings. If channeled and harvested correctly, these swings can make for more sentimentally loving, creative, and spontaneously adventurous dispositions toward life. Innately sensitive to the tides of the Moon, this can create situations that aren’t ideal for Cancereans thus leading them to ruminate and feel trapped when it comes to reflecting on the past. As often as they try to hide this facet about themselves with their ever-shifting moods, despite appearing restless, arguments tend to wear them down and criticism pushes them into their shell, preventing them from experiencing new things. Those with a Sun, Moon, and Rising in Cancer are aggressively loyal to those that they love….unless an actual or slight offense is shown toward them, or once their loyalty is broken, they can permanently leave others in a disapproving stasis and never hold that person in the same regard again. Centering much of their focus on the home, Cancer is the water sign homebody with their end goal being peace and harmony within their family circle. When love and patience aren’t regulated enough in Cancer’s upbringing, the chances for self-destructive, self-pitying tendencies and manipulation to manifest increases overtime. Cancer is in the water sign element along with Scorpio and Pisces. Water allows these individuals to be tapped into their emotions which gives them the ability to empathize with others in feeling their pain and suffering, as if their own. The saving grace for water signs is their impeccable intuition, sense of imagination, hypersensitivity, and mysterious nature that to which is comparable to the darkest depths of the ocean. In addition to their highly imaginative minds, water signs are prone to having intense dream cycles and messages revealed during sleep.

Depending on what soul-work has been done before this time, there can be an abundance of life epiphanies or mountains of confusion that have been refused to be accepted during the month of July. The reason is due to five major planets that are simultaneously retrograding: Mercury, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Jupiter. With these five retrogrades coinciding with the solar eclipse and partial lunar eclipse, this sets the stage for pandemonium. There are some planets that retrograde a few times a year (i.e. Mercury) which have a normative pattern of doing so, though, there are some planets which seldomly retrograde, causing for extreme life shifts to happen when they do. All five of the planets are set to go direct within their own given time, but feeling the effects of their planets having been retrograde will continue until the end of 2019 and into 2020. This is the perfect opportunity to call up your Cancer friend, family-member or coworker and have a dinner-date at home. Set the mood, get those wine glasses out and light those candles; there is nothing better than having your Cancer loved one near you to open up and get deep about mutual life struggles. They will completely understand where you’re coming from and will let you cry on their shoulders any day of the week. Recipes that stay in your repertoire for years to come are hard to come by — especially when it comes to mastering them from memory. These are the two recipes that have successfully made it into the queue of recipes that I have been able to count on to make me feel a sense of calm and tranquility during chaotic times. Carrot Ginger Soup and Samin Nosrat’s Buttermilk-Marinated Roast Chicken. Yes, the ginger explosion from a few years back has subsided, however, this recipe is sure to make you fall in love with the hearty, zestful root all over again. The recipe is effortlessly simple and with a handful of ingredients, messing up the recipe is near-impossible. The soup fits all seasons and can be made vegan as well. The Buttermilk-Marinated Roast Chicken recipe is from the Netflix special, Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat, will get the creative and imaginative juices flowing in teaching the components and showcasing the production of basic food elements in the ubiquitous diet. If you have not seen the series, it’s a must-watch show and if you prefer to read, buy the book! From my experience, the longer you leave the chicken marinating in the buttermilk the better. My suggestion is instead of starting with a whole chicken the best results yield from using drumsticks or legs and thighs. The muscle meat absorbs the buttermilk quicker and allows for the skin and meat to roast and fall naturally off the bone.
